Waterside Code Club – Summer Term Update
Hiya all
We can’t believe that we’ve been in Noadswood now for almost a year, where does the time go!!
Anyhoo, as we look forward to the second half of term we wanted to share some updates / planning we have in mind for the next 7 weeks.. We're back in school this week on 4th June 2026 15:40 - 16:45
Summer 2nd Half Term
We plan to start each session with a challenge to code / do, and then spend 5 mins or so reviewing what they have done and lessons learnt. This will then be followed by continuing to work on their own projects. This is different from previous half terms, where we’ve felt a little slippage away from coding. This reinforces our Star Club Status.
We are expecting each child to produce something that we will publish on our website We will offer as much help as is needed. Showcase - Waterside Code Club
Last Show and Tell (16th July 2026)
We’d like to invite you to join us for our final show and tell this academic year where we will have the following agenda, more details nearer the day, please keep diary free from 15:45 • Arrival – Sit with your young person and see what they’ve been upto with their own projects • Awards – We have a number of awards to issue, including Astro Pi certificates, and a few silly ones... • Police – We have invited PCSO Richard Williams to come in and talk to us all about internet safety and grooming awareness. Not something easy to discuss but he has agreed to come along at 16:30 and will natter for about 20 mins – all welcome.
Feedback
We're seeking feedback on a number of things:
- General Feedback on our weekly sessions, good or areas for improvement
- Feedback on if you'd like a 2 hour Dojo during the summer break, what topic you'd like and if there are any dates you can't make. (Scratch challenge, python challenge, general challenge, microbits, lego, physical, mystery)
- Laptops - if you are interesting in having one of our old Windows 10 laptops, please say so. Whilst they won't upgrade to Windows 11, they will take Linux Mint which we can load for you, ideal for youngsters with limited access to technology at home.
Autumn Term Lookahead
Normally we have just rolled over our young coders and they've returned and rejoined each term. We're making a change to this approach so that we can offer places to those on our waiting list and support youngsters that have demonstrated that want to learn to code or have their own project. So returning in the Autumn will be by invitation only. We hope this encourages less non-coding activity. A further update will follow in due course.
The first couple of months (September / October) we may have to review our sessions due to temporary personal reasons. Please keep an eye on our website and emails. Thanks
