Waterside Code Club Update

A big thanks

We've been at Noadswood now for almost a month and wanted to issue a wee update on how it's going, and what our plans for the next half term are.

The youngsters have all been amazing, beit waiting patiently at reception, or following us to the lovely computer suite, sharing ideas on their programs all with gusto and enthusiasm. They've been shown Fire Escapes, toilets, reception and have all done brilliantly, well done..

BEBRAS Challenge 10-21 November

The Raspberry Pi foundation hosts the BEBRAS annual challenge with age appropriate games/quizzes designed to promote computational thinking in a fun way. We're aiming to let all our coders attempt this years challenge, practice questions can be found here if you want to have a peep https://www.bebras.uk/index.php?action=user_competitions. Please make sure you select the right age group, and if brave have a look at the Elite section.

Grab Some Swag

Everybody likes swag, and three different challenges have been set whereby submission of entries can earn the club and youngster some unique swag. There's projects in Artificial Intelligence, Micro:Bits and Scratch, something for all. We're going to dedicate the next few weeks to this, to create some structure to our sessions. More information can be found here https://watersidecodeclub.uk/noticeboard/ Look for the This is Our Code Club Notice. There's a link there where you can seen what's on offer.

Astro PI

One of our favorites offerings is Astro Pi; where there is a chance to submit code to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2026. Plenty of time yet to create a novel and interesting short program to send into space. All participants receive a participation certificate around June next year ( Sorry! ) along with a map of where the ISS was when their code ran.. We have until March next year to complete. There is more information on our web site. Link above.

Waiting list

Word is getting out about us and we're now full with 20 youngsters attending. We need to remind you that if you miss three sessions in a row, (without letting us know) your place will be offered to someone on the waiting list, and you will be placed on it. Please email us at WatersideCodeClub@coderdojo.com

Half Term Dojo

Information about our half term Dojo will be issued shortly, but will be focused on BEBRAS Challenges and Astro Pi
